NEARSOL’s Impact on Society
Why is corporate social responsibility (CSR) a priority for NEARSOL? And why is CARE or CARING a core value for us? To answer these questions, let’s begin by defining what CSR is. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) refers to a voluntary framework adopted by businesses, which enables them to assume responsibility for their actions and conduct in a manner that is socially responsible to many entities, including the organization itself, its stakeholders, and the wider public. Through the implementation of corporate social responsibility (CSR), also known as corporate citizenship, organizations may demonstrate a heightened awareness of the many ways in which their actions influence different facets of society, including economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
When organizations implement moral and ethical policies, they are also said to be doing CSR. Evidence demonstrates that a company’s bottom line and morale might benefit from CSR initiatives.
Done right, the effects of CSR are felt everywhere.
First, you don’t have to be a Fortune 500 company to start making a difference in the world and getting the marketing and branding benefits that come with a good CSR plan.
CSR can give companies and groups direct benefits like more sales, and secondary benefits, like brand recognition, goodwill, and less risk. It’s good to try for both kinds of results. But some perks can’t be bought, like love, care, the ability to connect and engage, drive, and happiness.
At NEARSOL’s Circle of Care Initiative, we’ve come to realize that when we truly CARE, everyone benefits.
It isn’t just the recipient community that benefits. Our stakeholders (employees, management, suppliers, clients, colleagues, and partners), benefit as well!
The core value of CARING and passion is contagious. When constantly practiced in our personal lives, the same value tends to benefit our professional lives too.
Among NEARSOL’s CSR programs are regular and consistent assistance to the following organizations:
CONCORDIA CHILDREN’s SERVICES, INC is a child welfare agency that provides both residential and community-based programs. They take in orphans, assist children of indigent families, and provide them with education, spiritual hope, and nourishment. CCS was founded in 1983, in partnership with another child-caring agency for abandoned, neglected, and orphaned children. As the organization grew, it was eventually incorporated. In 1988, their name was changed to Concordia to reflect their Lutheran heritage. In 1989, Concordia Children’s Services expanded to serve the street and urban poor children in Pasig City.

GAWAD KALINGA is a Philippine non-governmental organization known officially as the Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation. It describes itself as a “poverty alleviation and nation-building movement”. Its mission is to end poverty for 5 million families by 2024. For them, poverty is about loss of dignity and disconnection from opportunities. They aim to help alleviate poverty by building homes. This is to jumpstart the dignity of families with the hope that these houses become platforms so that they can reach out to other communities in the long term.

THE ROTARY CLUB of Iloilo is also a beneficiary of NEARSOL. This rotary club zeroes in on the vulnerable sectors – persons with disabilities, children, discriminated members of society, among many others. Francis of The Rotary Club of Iloilo, imparts that “ NEARSOL came at a crucial time. We appreciate all the CSR efforts. When people saw NEARSOL’s help, it triggered help from others” Aside from immediate relief efforts, they value projects aimed at sustainable livelihood, educating children, and skills training.

CAMP SONSHINE CENTER FOUNDATION aims to reach the children and youth of the Philippines by giving both immediate relief (in the form of food baskets, Christmas, and grocery bags) as well as long-term help (scholarships) through discipleship and ministry. They aspire to give Filipino children and youth a sense of hope and destiny in God BY improving their chances of success in life and helping them become productive citizens of the Philippines.
